Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, extracted from plants, to help balance the body and mind, and promote physical and emotional wellbeing. Essential oils have been used for more than 5000 years and work on holistic principles to stimulate vital energies to enhance the healing process.

The aroma of an essential oil, or a combination of oils, travels via the olfactory system to the brain and limbic system, which regulates the sensory motor activities and changes the behavioural mechanisms of various organ functions. Feelings of deep relaxation or nourishment is generated and felt by the patient. This positive effect on the brain and our emotions triggers our body systems to rebalance and function harmoniously together.

Desana's Aromatherapist is highly skilled in knowing how to use the many different essential oils to stimulate specific emotional responses, which in turn stimulates specific parts of the body to rejuvenate or relax.

Aromatherapy has many uses and may noticeably improve your wellbeing. Some of the common problems Aromatherapy can help with include:

Essential oils are usually administered at Desana through massage and an oil vaporiser. Essential oils are also recommended to clients for home use such as a bath time additive.

Aromatherapy is excellent complimentary therapy and can be applied in conjunction with many other therapies to enhance the effects of such treatments.
